A transformation of two small studios into self-contained holiday accommodation. The existing buildings are plywood clad pole houses on a native bush clad slope overlooking Wellington Harbour.
Responding to the client’s enjoyment of living amongst bush, our proposal grew from the idea of metaphorical treehouses as expressions of structure, shelter, pattern and movement. These poetic nuances had to be balanced with climatic and practical considerations, including a tight budget and the client’s intention to self-build. Claddings are plywood and vertical cedar weatherboard, left to grey. Roofing is olive coloured steel to meld in with the surrounding environment.
